Jujube of Arquà Petrarca
The jujube, called “zizola” in the local dialect, is a small fruit, which grows spontaneously in the Euganean Hills and it is considered a symbol of joy and prosperity. In the past, jujubes were a good remedy for coughs, while nowadays they are used in the confectionary business. Arquà Petrarca celebrates the beginning of Autumn, the season when jujubes ripens: the first two Sundays of October, the traditional “Jujubes Festival” takes place.
The Euganean Hills Jujube is included in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s list of traditional products.
